About the speakers


  • Matt Higgins is a Senior Transport Planner and Active Travel Lead for the North West and Yorkshire region at Arup. He has over 11 years’ experience leading a variety of local, regional, national and international active travel and multi-modal projects and has previously worked at Steer, the London Borough of Hackney, Transport for London and the Department for Transport. He specialises in policy and strategy; design; monitoring and evaluation; multi-modal network development; scheme appraisal; and stakeholder engagement.


  • Alastair Gordon is experienced in multidisciplinary design work and is a strong communicator, able to liaise with stakeholders and local authority officers and members with confidence. He is a Chartered Civil Engineer with significant experience of delivering schemes within urban centres. Alastair leads Arup’s Cities Planning and Design team in the North-West and Yorkshire. He is also the Chair of the West and North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce Transport Board.
